First, most phone deals on Black Friday will involve a new 2-year contract but the phone should be nearly free. But what if you contract was not eligible for upgrade? How do you get around that?

Even if you are eligible for an upgrade, you are not going to be able to take advantage of the deals if you don’t add another line.

However, you can change your plan to a family plan (slightly more than individual) and get the discount that way. This is much cheaper in the long run, perhaps you cost extra $40/month for the extra phone. But you do get the phone for free.
